Lake County, IN Tax Sales

There are two types of tax lien certificate auctions in Lake County, IN, the Commissioner and Treasurer Sale. The redemption period for properties purchased at the Commissioner Sale is 120 days and 1 year for the Treasurer Sale. The Commissioner’s Sale is generally held in-person and the Treasurer’s Sale is online.

REGISTRATION: IN PERSON AT THE LAKE COUNTY AUDITOR’S TAX SALE DEPARTMENT LOCATED AT 2293 N MAIN ST  CROWN POINT, IN.

REGISTRATION DATES:  FEBRUARY 17 THRU MARCH 11, 2021 FROM 9AM – 2PM    (CST)  NO EXCEPTIONS!!

REGISTRATION FEE: $600, PAYABLE TO THE LAKE COUNTY TREASURER VIA CASHIER’S CHECK OR MONEY ORDER

THE REDEMPTION PERIOD FOR THE SALE IS 120 DAYS.  YOU WILL NOT OWN THE PROPERTY UNTIL YOU RECEIVE A TAX DEED, YOU WILL OWN A TAX LIEN CERTIFICATE.

UNDER THE INDIANA LAW, YOU (THE “PURCHASER”) MUST NOTIFY THE PROPERTY OWNER AND ALL INTERESTED PARTIES WITHIN  NINETY (90) DAYS OF TAX SALE OF YOUR PURCHASE.

PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT DUE DILIGENCE IS A MUST.  THE COUNTY IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOU BIDDING ON A PROPERTY THAT YOU DO NO WANT.
